Queensland Little Athletics Association is responsible for organising and conducting the Introduction to Coaching Courses through out the state on behalf of the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) – Queensland Branch.
The aim of Introduction to Coaching courses is to provide parents, teachers and interested sports people who have little or no experience of the sport of track and field with coaching information and activities. Introduction to Coaching courses are designed for beginner coaches to give a sound basic knowledge and are particularly appropriate for people coaching young athletes at the grass roots level.
The course is eight hours in duration and covers all event groups on the Little Athletics track and field program. At the conclusion of the course the coach will be able to:
- Implement a coaching session appropriate to the target group,
- Organise a group of young athletes safely,
- Implement a working model of each event through the use of drills, technical skills and games,
- Rectify some of the more common technical faults associated with Little Athletes.
Cost: $88 per person - cost includes an ATFCA coaching manual and certificate.
How to host an Introduction to Coaching course
1. Download and read the 'ITC Information Guide' and decide if this is what your Centre would benefit from.
2. Find out if there is enough support from your Centre to conduct a course or clinic. If not, ask surrounding Centres if any of their members would like to participate.
3. Download and complete the ‘Application to host’ form. Submit it to the QLAA office within the required timeframe.
4. Complete the relevant registration forms, one per person attending and forward to QLAA office.
5. Read the program for the day and note the starting time.
6. Participate and enjoy the day.
