AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

BRISBANE – SATURDAY 24th APRIL 2010

Would you like to be part of the 2010 QLAA State Team? Here is what you need to do to be eligible. Read the information below, show your Mum & Dad and become better informed about the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALACs) selection and management of our representative team.
Eligibility for the Team

Eligibility for selection in the State Team is limited to those children in the U13 and U15 age groups who have attended 60% of a Little Athletic Centre’s actual competition days in the season of selection, unless on medical grounds (which is to be supported by a medical certificate) or on compassionate grounds.

The Team
The team is comprised of an U13 team – normally 11 boys and 11 girls. Two competitors will be selected for each event and one team selected for each relay. There is also an U15 team and is limited to four competitors (two boys and two girls) and they compete in the Multi Event.
Team Selection
The team will be selected, principally, on their performances at State Championships, then if necessary, performances at other recently held QLAA sanctioned events will be taken into consideration in the final selection process.

Generally, the U13 athletes will not be selected for one event only, therefore, should endeavour to qualify in the maximum number of events at Regional Championships to increase their opportunity of selection in the State Team.
Please note, that placing at States does not guarantee selection in the team.
Events
U13s – 80M Hurdles; 100 metres; 200 metres; 400 metres; 800 metres; 1500 metres; 1500m walk; 4x100m relay; Discus; Shot Put; Javelin; High Jump; Long Jump; Triple Jump. No athlete may compete in more than four events overall (relay counts as one event).

U15s – 90M Hurdles (Girls); 100m Hurdles (Boys); 100 metres; 800 metres; Long Jump; Discus; 4X100m relay.
The Competition
The competition is held over one day (Saturday 24th April 2010) at The University of QLD Athletics Track, Brisbane. The only QLAA event not offered at the ALAC’s is the 200m Hurdles. It is a Teams Championship and although recognition is given to individual placegetters, the emphasis is on the Team performances and the main trophy for the day is the U13 Team Trophy. There is also a Team Trophy for the U15 athletes. It is important to note that this competition is considerably different to other Track and Field Championships.
Costs
Uniforms will be provided by the Association, however, athletes will be required to contribute $440 towards travel, accommodation, meal expenses and attending the compulsory Team camp that is being held on Saturday 17th April 2010.
Uniforms
The team is selected on the Sunday afternoon of the State Championships, and will be asked to meet with the State Team Personnel following the announcement of the Team for outfitting.
