CAPS Participants Have a Say

Caps Program
By Emma Graham

Early this year I was given a CAPS pamphlet by one the committee members at Runaway Bay Little Athletics. I immediately thought that this is something I want to do. My coordinator was organised and I began activities quickly. I have already completed Step 1 and am into Step 2. Some of the activities I have done whilst involved in this program include assisting on centre training days, officiating at Zone Intercentre Games and State Championships, assisting in the preparation of the Runaway Bay Little Athletics presentation night, attending the Zone Meeting, the pre season uniform stock take and work experience at QLAA office. As well as spending time with St John Ambulance at Zone Intercentre Games to observe how they handle various injuries and why, this was very interesting. Although I have only been in the program for a relatively small amount of time the benefits have been great. I have always loved little athletics and this program allows me to spend heaps of time doing what I love and learning new things so I can hopefully help others in the future. When I eventually finish Step 2 and then Step 3 I plan on starting on the Sport Leader Award which I predict will be as rewarding and beneficial as the earlier steps.

I thank Leigh Johnston (my coordinator) for showing me that pamphlet and helping me to get started and supporting me through all the activities because this program will no doubt benefit me in the future. I am planning to pursue a career in sport management or exercise science and I encourage anyone interested in the same to get some information on this program.

I hope that I inspire some of the younger athletes at my centre to start the CAPS program and benefit just as much as I have. Remember it’s not just for little athletics but lots of different sports and its lots of fun.

Did you know?

Coaching as an Activity

Did you know that as a CAPS participant, QLAA will provide you with a discount of $20.00 for anyone who interested in completing an OTC.

Each year 15 participants can apply for this assistance, which is provided under the proviso of ‘first in, first awarded’ policy.

If you’re 15 years or older, have selected coaching as one of your activities and are interested in doing an OTC Course, you might like to consider applying.  To do so, simply e-mail the Association Office.
